Mildred Howard, an important Bay Area artist and social activist, was honored this week on the Alameda Women’s Hall of Fame. Representing the Art and Culture category, she was selected for enhancing and encouraging individual creativity in the performing, visual and media arts.

Mildred Howard is well-known for her broad portfolio of contemporary and social-meaning work. Including installations and sculptures, she shows to the public projects which express a visual vocabulary shaped by memory, history, family, identity and place. Her work is included in the collections of major museums in the Bay Area, nationally and internationally.
